The more powerful and original a mind, the more it will incline towards the religion of solitude.

Aldous Huxley

There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves; it is not my nature.

We hunger for significance for signs that our personal existence is of special meaning to the universe. To that end, we are all to eager to deceive ourselves and others to discern a sacred image in a grilled cheese sandwich or find a divine warning in a comet.

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey (movie)

We can’t reach old age by another man’s road. My habits protect my life, but they would assassinate you.

Mark Twain

One of the most important gifts we can give our children is the confidence to say "I don`t know." It`s the foundation from which we begin our investigation of the world: asking questions, taking the necessary time to understand the answers, and searching for new answers when the ones we have in hand don`t seem to work. The feeling of not knowing is also the source of wonder and awe.

Annaka Harris

We live in a society where people are uncomfortable with not knowing. Children aren`t taught to say "I don`t know," and honesty in this form is rarely modeled for them. They too often see adults avoiding questions and fabricating answers, out of either embarrassment or fear, and this comes at a price. When children are embarrassed by or afraid of the feeling of not knowing, they are preoccupied with escaping their discomfort, rather than being motivated to learn. This robs them of the joy of curiosity. Let`s celebrate the feelings of awe and wonder in our children, as the foundation for all learning. Let`s teach children to say "I don`t know" and help them understand the power behind it. Let`s talk to them about how it feels to not know something. And, finally, let`s be honest with children about the limits of our own knowledge.

Annaka Harris

To give people control, you have to make clearly evident what the options are, because options largely exist only to the degree that they're perceived.

Eli Pariser

Without connections and overlap between communities, subcultures that make up the city don't evolve. As a result, the ghettos breed stagnation and intolerance.

Eli Pariser

The future is already here - it's just not very evenly distributed.

William Gibson

In the early days of the Internet, this was one of the medium's great hopes - that it would finally offer a medium whereby whole towns - and indeed countries - could co-create their culture through discourse. Personalization has given us something very different: a public sphere sorted and manipulated by algorithms, fragmented by design, and hostile to dialogue.

Eli Pariser

When people don't have to worry about having their basic needs met, they care a lot more about having products and leaders that represent who they are.

Eli Pariser
